Fargo History Project
Category: Projects/Grants, Websites

The Fargo History Project is a public history initiative sponsored by Angela Smith, Assistant Professor of History at NDSU. She designed the project and the associated website as a vehicle for student research in her Digital History Class. The project’s aim is toward community engagement about local history. The Fall 2012 class began work on the project and focused on the founding of Fargo in 1871 until 1894. The 2013 class has focused on the years 1894-1916. They are also working on a documentary about African American Madam, Malvina Massey. Future classes will build on this effort.

“So often student work is produced and the only audience is the course instructor.,” Smith said. “The students in this class focused on presenting their historical research to a public audience and connecting the dots between their individual topics in their web presentation.”
